Bombers spring track team shows improvement in MHAL Championships

HYDE PARK — Faced against 17 other competing schools, the Pine Plains varsity spring track team rose above the competition to produce strong performances in the recent Mid-Hudson Athletic League (MHAL) Championships on Saturday, May 18.

This year’s championships were held at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School and featured 17 varsity spring track teams. Out of the 17 participating schools, the Pine Plains girls track team finished in 13th place with seven points while the Pine Plains boys track team finished in 14th place with eight points.

“The coaches were really impressed by the performances from our team members in a tough MHAL Championship meet,” said Pine Plains Coach Jeremy Weber. “We had a lot of improvement and we are proud at how our team did today.”

Running in the 200 meter dash, Maddy Michetti placed ninth while Autumn Prezzano received 10th place in the 400 meter hurdles and Sage Douglass scored ninth place in the high jump. For the pole vault, Douglass earned fifth place, followed by Jules Losee in seventh place and Prezzano in 11th place. 

For the championships’ relay races, Losee, Maddy and Meredith Michetti and Samantha Haines came in ninth place for the 4 x 100 relay while Brianna Blackburn, Keara Nielsen, Cameron Decker and Patience Tindall came in seventh place for the 4 x 800 relay.

For the boys, Bryce Stracher came in ninth place for the 100 meter dash while Christian Aldana came in 13th place in the 200 meter dash and Joe Krimmer came in seventh place for the 400 meter dash. Krimmer also placed 13th in the high jump while Josh Bay finished in 13th place for the 400 meter hurdles; Ben Hambleton came in 10th place in the pole vault.

For the relay races, Krimmer, Aldana, Stracher and Adam Hess came in fourth place while Kieran Reilly, Alex Lopez-Reyes, Landon Fitzgerald and Nick McPherson earned eighth place in the 4 x 800 relay.

BRISTOL — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team ended the season with a 34-0 shutout victory over St. Paul Catholic High School Wednesday, Nov. 26.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
