Celebrating lumberjack skills in new team sport

WARREN — Wamogo Regional High School in Litchfield held and hosted the first Timberlympics on Tuesday, May 21.

Wamogo (which serves students in Warren, Morris and Goshen) is the first high school in Connecticut to form a timber team. The first season began in 2010 with four team members. This season’s team consists of 58 members. The coaches are Shannon Strong, Chris Brittain, Phil Demetri and Ann Sherwood.

The Wamogo team competed against the Woodland Timber Team in the Timberlympics.  The competition consisted of lumberjack-based events including ax-throwing, crosscut sawing, bow saw, pulp toss, log rolling and a relay event.

Eight seniors from the Wamogo team who will graduate in June were given awards by the coaches at the end of the show.
