History Webinar: The Roosevelts, Race & Civil Rights

On Monday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom, the Columbia County Libraries Association (CCLA) invites you to the inaugural program in a new history series on Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt, presented by Jeff Urbin, an educator from the Roosevelt Presidential Museum and Library in Hyde Park. Join us for "The Roosevelts, Race, and Civil Rights" and delve into the transformative era of the Roosevelt Administration.

This engaging webinar will explore how Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1932 election reshaped America’s political, economic, and racial landscapes. Attendees will gain insight into the pivotal role Black voters played in shaping the New Deal and World War II policies, laying the foundation for the civil rights movement of the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s. Key questions to be addressed include: How did the support of Black voters influence FDR’s election? In what ways did the New Deal seek to address racial inequalities, and how effective were these efforts? What role did Black servicemen and women play in Roosevelt’s World War II strategy? Why wasn’t greater progress achieved in racial equity during this time? What impact did Eleanor Roosevelt have during the administration and beyond?

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how the Roosevelt Administration’s policies shaped the course of American history.

This free program is open to the public. To register and receive the Zoom link, email columbiacountylibraries@gmail.com.
