Peter Donald Schultz

SALISBURY — Peter Donald Schultz, who was born Nov. 30, 1959, died May 19, 2019.

He was a graduate of Housatnic Valley Regional High School, Class of 1977.

He played soccer and golf, loved skiing, and was on the ski team and chorus and supported a number of shows in the high school’s theater department. 

He drove for the Lakeville Taxi for a number of years and was an EMT with the Salisbury Ambulance and a guard at The Hotchkiss School. 

He returned to live in North Canaan before moving to Freeport, Ill., and then to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he died after living for four months with stage 3 lung cancer.   

He was predeceased by his mother, Suzanne P. Schultz of Lakeville and North Canaan before moving to Florida;  and his father, Donald S. Schultz of Freeport. 

He is survived by his brother, David W. Schultz and his wife, Elizabeth; his nephew, Thomas G. Schultz of Oak Ridge; an uncle, Robert F. Pearce of Palm Beach Garden, Fla.; and many cousins. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift in his name may be sent to RAMP,  Peter’s last job, advocating for people with disabilities of Rockford, Ill. (www.rampcil.org).

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

Local writer shares veterans’ stories in Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Medal of Honor’ podcast

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
