Pine Plains Hose Company No. 1 moves closer to gaining new gear

PINE PLAINS — On Monday, Jan. 28, the Pine Plains Hose Company No. 1 had a special meeting with representatives from Honeywell, a company that specializes in first responder products, about replacing the turnout gear for the company’s 18 qualified interior firefighters.“One of the goals of the department is to minimize the impact that any new equipment will have on the taxpayers,” Pine Plains Fire Chief Shawn Lamont said.Honeywell’s corporate donation will go a long way for the department to meet this goal. The new equipment will have new safety features designed into them to protect the volunteer firefighters from the hazards they face when responding to calls.“Honeywell is looking at donating the needed equipment to the department, which runs about $2,900 per individual,” Lamont said. “We had our first five firefighters getting sized for their equipment on Wednesday evening, Feb. 6. Those first five sets of equipment should arrive by mid-March. The rest of the remaining 13 sets of gear we will hopefully have over the following few months.”There will be a follow-up meeting between the Pine Plains Hose Company and the Honeywell CEO on Friday, Feb. 8, where further details will be worked out and agreed upon.
