Robert C. Judge

CORNWALL BRIDGE — Robert C. Judge, 90, died at home surrounded by family on March 2, 2019.

Bob was born in Brockton, Mass., on May 31, 1928, to Nora (Shinnick) and Thomas E. Judge.

He graduated from Holy Cross College in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. During the junior prom with Regis College, he saw Mary Lou Gallagher across the room and asked her to dance. She was on the planning board for the dance and he was in charge of hiring a big band for the event. They married two years later and began their journey together.

Bob worked continuously from the age of 14, from the early days of changing oil and driving for the family taxi business (the first jitney cab company in the City of Brockton), to joining HP Hood & Sons as their very first management trainee in Boston. His favorite assignment was opening Penguin Ice Cream shops and inventing flavors; family favorites included The Football Special and, of course, bubblegum ice cream.

In 1966 he joined John Sexton & Co. and moved the family to Washington, D.C., where he worked as regional sales manager. In 1971 he was promoted to national sales manager and the family hit the road again, this time to Chicago, settling the family in LaGrange.

Seven years later, he accepted a new position in Boston with the company as director of sales for the greater Northeast. He worked there until his retirement.

He enjoyed many years in Naples, Fla., with his second wife Helen (now deceased).

Eight years ago, he moved to Connecticut, where he lived with and was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Darilyn, her husband, Dermot, and their daughters, Sophia and Olivia.

In the last year of his life, they were joined by his daughter Rose Gallagher, who devoted her time to caring for him. He enjoyed the beautiful countryside of the area and spent many hours gazing at the grazing cows on the hillside across the way.

Mary Lou passed away in 1989. Bob is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Joseph and Gail Judge, Frank and Maria Judge, Rose Gallagher, Thomas Judge, Elizabeth Judge and Eli Nelson, Darilyn and Dermot Woods, Richard and Sharon Judge, Neil Vandenberg and Francisco Placencia; and 20 grandchildren and their children, each one holding a special place in his heart.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Cornwall Bridge on Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. The Kenny Funeral Home is taking care of arrangements.

Burial will take place on June 22 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boston Children’s Hospital, whose nurses helped to save Mr. Judge’s life at 3 years old during the polio epidemic of 1931.

May Castleberry’s next chapter

May Castleberry’s next chapter

May Castleberry at home in Lakeville.

Natalia Zukerman
Castleberry’s idea of happiness is “looking at a great painting.”

May Castleberry is a ball of sunshine and passion, though she grew up an introverted child, moving with her family from Alberta to Colorado to Texas, finding comfort in mountains, books and wide-open skies. Today, the former art book editor and museum curator has found a new home in Lakeville, where the natural beauty of the Northwest Corner continues to captivate her. Whether walking with friends, painting, reading or visiting beloved local libraries in Salisbury, Norfolk and Cornwall, Castleberry has embraced the region since making her move permanent in 2022, bringing with her a remarkable career shaped by a lifelong love of books and art.

Castleberry grew up in the world of books, and especially art books, and she credits her artist mother, an avid art book collector, with igniting her passions. Castleberry’s high school art teacher in Dallas understood how to teach students to channel their imaginations into books and art.

With Style: Sarah Blodgett’s art of collecting

Sarah Blodgett has turned her passion for collecting into “something larger.”

There is something wonderfully disarming about walking into a space where nothing feels overly polished, overly planned or pulled from a catalog — a place where history lingers in the corners, where color is fearless, where the objects on the shelves have stories to tell and where, if you are lucky, a cat named Cinnamon may be supervising the entire operation.

That is the world of Sarah Blodgett.
