The Wassaic Project gets artsy

WASSAIC— The Wassaic Project launched the opening of its 2019 Summer Exhibition “Ad Astra Per Aspera” by rallying its resident artists and local residents together for an afternoon celebration on Saturday, May 18.

With the gallery opening at 3 p.m., spectators were invited to explore the work of more than 70 emerging artists featured throughout all seven floors of Maxon Mills. They also met artists-in-residence for the month of May at the Open Studios in Luther Barn.

The celebration officially kicked off with a parade throughout the hamlet of Wassaic at 4 p.m.,  led by the 19-piece brass band What Cheer? Brigade from Providence, R.I., and featuring artist-made floats, masks and banners. Following a Cake Whack fundraiser and exhibition reception, The Wassaic Project ended the celebration on a high note with a block party and live music at The Lantern from 5 to 7 p.m.
