Murphy’s Auto changes location

MILLBROOK — Murphy’s Auto Center, previously located off of Route 44, is moving to 60 Scout Road in Salt Point. The move will be complete, meaning that Joe Murphy will be operating solely out of the Salt Point location, on Aug. 1.

Over the course of three generations, Murphy’s has served the Millbrook community since 1979. The loyal clientele can attest to Murphy’s honesty, fair pricing and friendly service.

None of these characteristics will be lost to the move, said Murphy. If anything, Murphy said he feels that he’ll be even better suited to help his community in the new location.

Murphy’s Auto Center has been in the same location for nearly 18 years. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Murphy family had to quickly find a new location for their business. Sure enough they found a facility where they believe they will prosper.

Murphy purchased the Salt Point Auto Sales facility. At the Route 44 location, Murphy leased his space month-to-month. He now looks forward to being the sole owner of the facility, so that he will not have to endure the headaches of moving again.

Despite the initial stress of having to find a new location for their business, Murphy said he’s excited to be moving into a state-of-the-art, high end facility. The new space is much larger than Murphy’s current location, and is equipped with a paint booth and body shop, which will enable Murphy to offer even more services.

The new buildings will be called Murphy’s Auto and Murphy’s Auto Body. Murphy’s will be offering automotive repair, auto body work, 24-hour towing services and auto detailing.

“It’s a really beautiful facility,” said Murphy, “there’s so much more I can do there.”

Murphy anticipates the inevitable loss of a couple customers, but is excited to expand his business to an even greater clientele.

Murphy and his family are optimistic about the move and hope that their clients will be able to appreciate the new facilities as much as they do.

Still from "The King of In between"

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
