Anne Marie (Golden) Vanicky

Sharon — Anne Marie (Golden) Vanicky, 81, died March 1, 2010. She was the widow of Edward Vanicky.

Anne was born Oct. 7, 1928, in Salisbury, the daughter of the late Anna (Ulin) and Alton Golden.

A lifetime Sharon resident, she was devoted to her loving husband, Ed, for 58 years and missed him terribly these past four years after his death. He affectionately called her “Babe.â€

They were regulars at the Millerton McDonald’s. This developed into a longlasting friendship with managers and staff, who adored them.

A strong, independent woman, years ago Anne dug their home’s foundation with a tractor and when it tipped over, she climbed out unscathed except for a single bruise. A loving mother of seven and a stay-at-home mom, she worked odd jobs to help make ends meet. Her strength and determination carried her through life and helped her battle illnesses in recent years.

An avid gardener, particularly proud of her roses and irises, she was also an amateur radio operator (or “ham) and a tag sale, flea market and swap shop enthusiast. Anne loved a good cup of tea with donuts or cookies, and at a moment’s notice she could produce a tissue from her sleeve or pocket.

She worked at Sharon Hospital for more than 15 years in the laboratory department. Anne was a founding member of the Storm King Snow Riders snowmobile club of Sharon.

She is survived by her children, Dianne Croce and her husband, Harry, Susan Parsons and her husband, Dave, Donna Vanicky and her boyfriend, Al Middlebrook, Jim Vanicky, Ed Vanicky, Debby Sangiovanni and her husband, Gino, and Rick Vanicky and his wife, Cathie; her grandchildren, Kyle Croce, Keith and Kelly Croce, Jenna Vanicky, Julie and Ben Mt. Castle, Jenny Vanicky, Anthony Sangiovanni, Joey, Bridget and Aleksey Vanicky; her great-grandchildren, Riley & Lucy Mt. Castle and Kaiden Vanicky; a brother, Karl Golden Sr. and his wife, Grace; and a sister, Catherine Marrone and her husband, Joe.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at the St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon. Burial will be in the spring.

Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Sharon Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 357, Sharon, CT 06069.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
