Christopher Todd Antiques & Interiors moves to Millerton

Millerton — Christopher Todd Antiques & Interiors opened at 34 Main St. in March. Christopher Todd Page’s shop is home to “sophisticated vintage” antiques, including light fixtures, furniture and fine art.

Page is a fourth-generation interior designer and antique dealer and has previously owned businesses in Westport, Conn., and Raleigh, N.C.

Most of the pieces in Page’s shop are from southern craftsmen, typically from the North Carolina area. Page gathers antiques from estate sales in both southern America and Europe. However, Page said his business isn’t just a run-of-the-mill antique shop.

Page is careful in his purchasing, so as to create a certain aesthetic within his collection. He describes his collection as a more selective and edited version of an antique shop, and said that his background in interior design helped him in defining his unique look. He strives for an out-of-the-box mind set in all of his endeavors.

He said he looks forward to further establishing his business in Millerton.

“I’m invested in this area,” said Page. “I hope to be a good resident of the town and bring more business into it.”

Page said that setting up shop in Millerton has been his most positive experience with his business yet. After a difficult opening season in Raleigh in 2011, Todd was discouraged by the recession’s impact on his business and moved north in search of success. Westport was, as he described, a very average place for his business. He sought to find a town that would allow his business to flourish — then he found Millerton and Lake-ville, Conn., knowing immediately that this would be the next place for his shop.

After living in Lakeville for two years, Page opened his most successful shop yet.

Only a couple of months in, Page has gotten a positive response from the local area and has found it to bring in more business than he has ever had before. He attributes this to the younger demographic in New York state, which is the crowd that Page hopes to cater to.

Despite what Page describes as a constant tension between small town businesses and big business chains, he said he hopes his shop will be refreshing to the local community. He wants to develop a relationship between his business and the town.

Page is currently enjoying all that comes with running his own business.

“It’s fun being my own boss,” said Page, as he described his creative freedom and ability to travel all over for his store.

Page also looks forward to future collaborations with local fine art businesses and becoming involved with the community.

Christopher Todd Antiques & Interiors is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Monday. For more information on the store and Page’s interior design business, go to www.christophertoddhome.com.

Now is the perfect time to plan ahead for symphonic music this summer at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. Here are a few highlights from the classical programming.

Saturday, July 5: Shed Opening Night at 8 p.m. Andris Nelsons conducts the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Daniil Trifonov plays piano in an All-Rachmaninoff program. The Piano Concerto No. 3 was completed in 1909 and was written specifically to be debuted in the composer’s American tour, at another time of unrest and upheaval in Russia. Trifonev is well-equipped to take on what is considered among the most technically difficult piano pieces. This program also includes Symphonic Dances, a work encapsulating many ideas and much nostalgia.
