D’s Salon & Spa now open on South Center Street

Millerton — South Center Street in Millerton is welcoming a new business, as D’s Salon & Spa is now open.Located at 54B South Center St., the spa offers an array of services for pampering.“That’s what sets us apart,” said owner Dina Nguyen. “People can be pampered from their heads to their toes. Other places just do nails or just do massage, we do it all.”Nguyen, along with her partner TJ Roethel, is excited to bring their full list of services to Millerton.D’s offers a full menu of nail care, hair care, skin care and body work.“We want to make people happy and give them the best service we can,” she said.Nguyen, who owns another D’s Salon & Spa in Salisbury, Conn., was excited to move into Millerton.“I like Millerton. I’ve wanted to open a space here since last year,” she said. “I feel like it’s an up-and-coming town. If you want to be where the people are, then you want to be in Millerton,” she said.She is having a lot of success with her already loyal customer base.“Some people traveled from Ancram to see me in Salisbury. Now they don’t have to drive as far,” she said. “We’ve also gotten some great new customers which we’re really happy about.”The shop is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.“We may be changing the hours for the winter months, so keep an eye out. Right now we’re balancing the two shops but as we hire more staff we may be open even longer,” she said.

Restoring Cornwall's lost Revolutionary War grave markers

CORNWALL — On Sunday, May 25, Cornwall held a powerful ceremony to honor local veterans of the Revolutionary War.

At the cemetery on Route 4, about 25 attendees gathered to witness the placement of 10 grave markers. Bill Dinneen of the Cornwall Historical Society and Warren Stevens led the ceremony.

Marvelwood lacrosse goes back-to-back in HVAL

KENT — On Tuesday, May 20, Marvelwood School lacrosse defeated Woodhall School 15-9 in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League tournament final.

It was second straight HVAL championship win for the Pterodactyls and their fifth league title since 2018.

Mountaineers strike gold at BL track championships

HVRHS sophomore Ryan Segalla went three-for-three May 17 with Berkshire League gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m races. He was also on the gold-winning 4x400m relay team.

Berkshire League track and field wrapped up a season of competition with the league finals in Litchfield May 17. The BL festival followed with decathlon, heptathlon, steeplechase and hammer in Falls Village May 20 and Thomaston May 21.

The events included athletes from Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Gilbert School, Lakeview High School, Nonnewaug High School, Northwestern Regional High School, Shepaug Valley High School, Terryville High School and Thomaston High School.
