Findings Statement for Silo Ridge nearing completion

AMENIA — The Findings Statement for Silo Ridge moved ever closer to completion last Thursday evening, Dec. 18, at the Planning Board meeting.

"We’ve pretty much wrapped it up," board chairman George Fenn said. "Now it’s just a matter of getting it on paper."

According to Fenn, all discrepancies have been worked out, and the final draft should be produced over the holiday break.

"I don’t think it’s likely that we’ll have the final ceremony, so to speak, until the 30th or the first week of January," Fenn added.

After a Findings Statement is issued, there is still plenty of work left for both Silo Ridge and the board.

Next comes a site plan review, which is a closer look at the individual buildings.

"It is very detailed," Fenn said. "They have to get special permits for a variety of things. They have a whole host of other permits and waivers to get from other agencies."

The Planning Board is the lead agency on the SEQRA process, but there are many other agencies, including the Department of Environmental Concern, the Highway Department, the Board of Health and the Dutchess County Planning Board, that Silo Ridge needs approval from before constuction can begin.

Depot Hill DEIS

Depot Hill was also discussed at the board meeting.

"They are almost ready for public viewing," Fenn said. The board has had the applicant’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for some time. Fenn anticipated that it would be ready for the public in two meetings’ time.

"It’s not as voluminous as Silo Ridge," he said. "It should go pretty smoothly."

Other Planning Board news

Finally, there will be some restructuring in the Planning Board for the new year.

Gina Mignola has stepped down from the board. The board held an executive special meeting Dec.16, and Peter Clair was appointed to replace her.

George Fenn is stepping down from his position as board chairman, but will remain on the board. A reorganization meeting to be held on Jan. 2 will determine who will be the new chair.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
