NORTH CANAAN – The 2012 grand list of taxable property has been released by the assessor’s office. The net value (gross assessments minus exempt property) is $308,897,380.Real estate decreased by $35,744,360 (12.08 percent) for a total of $260,058,030.Personal property increased by $10,490 (.04 percent) for a total of $25,939,820.Motor vehicle assessments increased by $120,140 (.05 percent) for a total of $22,899,530.A total of $30,965,230 in property is tax exempt.The top 10 taxpayers are:1. A mill represents $1 in tax for every $1,000 of assessed property value. A 15-mill tax rate would translate into a tax bill of $1,500 for the owner of a home assessed at $100,000. The grand list is the total assessed value of all taxable property in a town. Properties are assessed at 70 percent of their total value.

Aradev LLC’s plans to redevelop Wake Robin Inn include four 2,000-square-foot cabins, an event space, a sit-down restaurant and fast-casual counter, a spa, library, lounge, gym and seasonal pool. If approved, guest room numbers would increase from 38 to 57.

Following the memorable benefit reading last season of Charles Busch’s Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” the Sharon Playhouse will present a one-night-only staged reading of his riotous comic melodrama “Die Mommie Die!” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

The production —a deliciously over-the-top homage to classic Hollywood mid-century thrillers — ­­continues the Playhouse’s artistic partnership with Busch, who reprises his iconic role of the glamorous yet troubled songstress Angela Arden.
