Rita Easton

SHARON — Rita Easton, 90, passed away Oct. 4, 2023, at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon.

Rita was born Rita Bernard on Sept. 8, 1933, to Henry and Victoria Bernard in  Connecticut and grew up in New Britain.  

Rita had a full life working as a model and actress and later as a writer. She moved to New York City to begin her modeling and actress career in her late teens.  She became a weekender in South Kent in the 1980’s, and later became a resident of Sharon.

She had a regular beat reporting about Arts and Antiques for the Newtown Bee.  Rita loved music and the arts and played piano and sang.  She enjoyed being part of the Kent Players Theater Group and truly loved her Connecticut home and friends.

She is survived by her son, David Easton, daughter-in-law Kathy Cole Easton of Maplewood, New Jersey,  two grandchildren, Ezekiel  and Isabelle, and cousins Robert Makoski and Marie Makoski.

A memorial service will be held in her honor in the Spring of 2024.

Windy weather cancels Kent Invitational

Glastonbury High School crew attempted to battle wind and white caps on Lake Waramaug at the Kent Invitational that was ultimately cancelled, May 10.

KENT — The annual Kent Invitational regatta on Lake Waramaug did not start this year due to strong winds of 30 miles per hour on Saturday, May 10.

The gusts caused white caps on the lake's surface and boats were unable to stay in lane or arrange on the starting line.

Wake Robin developers reapply with P&Z

LAKEVILLE — ARADEV LLC, the developer behind the proposed redesign of Wake Robin Inn, returned before Salisbury’s Planning and Zoning Commission at its May 5 regular meeting with a 644-page plan that it says scales back the project.

ARADEV withdrew its previous application last December after a six-round public hearing in which neighbors along Wells Hill Road and Sharon Road rallied against the proposal as detrimental to the neighborhood.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School girls lacrosse kept rolling Tuesday, May 6, with a decisive 18-6 win over Lakeview High School.

Eight different players scored for Housatonic in the Northwest Corner rivalry matchup. Sophomore Georgie Clayton led the team with five goals.
