The Auxiliary for Community Health has reopened its thrift shop in a new location — the old A&P plaza on Willow Street. A grand opening Tuesday attracted a bevy of shoppers and well-wishers who noted that the larger store is more visible, attractive and organized than the store’s previous location, in the Winsted Health Center’s basement.
The Auxiliary Thrift Shop is an all-volunteer-run organization that sells new and gently used items to raise money for community health programs. In the past, the auxiliary has donated exercise equipment, portable defibrillators and other medical devices to local police, ambulance drivers and medical personnel.
On Tuesday afternoon, thrift shop director Milly Hudak said she was overwhelmed by the community support. “We’re so excited,� she said. “Everyone who comes in here says the same thing, about how great it looks in here.�
Auxiliary member Sue Peacock echoed the enthusiasm, saying a group of extremely dedicated volunteers helped make the transition happen and will continue to staff the thrift shop. “We are very proud of all of the volunteers here,� she said.
