Town to vote on regional planning

CORNWALL — A town meeting has been set for Dec. 14 to seek voter authorization for the town to enter into a regional planning collaborative.

The Northwestern Connecticut Council of Governments (COG), which is made of first selectmen from nine area towns, is applying for a $120,000 state grant for a joint regional planning effort.

Funding would come from $8 million earmarked in the state budget for regional planning initiatives. The COG group includes the Region One towns, plus Norfolk and Goshen and towns in the Litchfield Hills Council of Elected Officials. The focus would be on issues such as economic development, open space and farmland preservation.

The funding would cover the program for one year. The only cost to the towns is advertising for the town meeting.

As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
