Walter L. Schreiber

CHESTER, Conn. — Walter L. Schreiber, 76, of Chester and formerly of North Canaan, died Oct. 6, 2014. He was the husband of the late Loretta (Gaudette) Schreiber. Walter was born Sept. 9, 1938, to the late Gertrude (Amelia) and Harry Schreiber. He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1956 and soon after joined the U.S. Navy. After serving his country, Walter helped his father’s business at the Esso Gas Station in North Canaan. After pursuing other interests, Walter became a police officer with the Wethersfield Police Department, where he served for several years. Walter was a member of the Masons and an avid animal lover.He is survived by his son, Scott Schreiber, of Sharon; his daughter, Susanne Schreiber, and her husband, David Irwin, of Litchfield; his granddaughter, Hannah Schewtschenko; and his longtime companion, Françoise Baker, of Manchester, Conn. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m., at the Canaan United Methodist Church in North Canaan. The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of the arrangements. SHARON — Sharon Dennis Rosen, 83, died on Aug. 8, 2025, in New York City.

Born and raised in Sharon, Connecticut, she grew up on her parents’ farm and attended Sharon Center School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She went on to study at Skidmore College before moving to New York City, where she married Dr. Harvey Rosen and together they raised two children.

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
