Babette's Old Fashioned set to reopen

MILLERTON - Babette's Old Fashioned will reopen this Saturday with an all-new menu and more of a presence of owners Beth Daidone and Buffy Arbogast.

"We are both looking forward to spending much more time in Millerton," Daidone said.

The two also own a restaurant in Millbrook.

"The new menu is sort of hard to put in words at this point. When we took the lease of an existing ice cream parlor and opened Babette's up, we didn't know what to expect. What we eventually found out is that ice cream is a seasonal food, so we took time to regroup over the winter."

Daidone said the menu will have less ice cream, a wider variety of baked goods and deli offerings.

"As far as I know in Millerton, there is nowhere else you can go for deli sandwiches," she said. "We will be offering some really good cold cuts and a build your own sandwich on the selections. We will have standard American comfort food, which includes yummy things like meat loaf and macaroni and cheese."

She said that she has found working people of the village are looking for wholesome and simple foods that are prepared well.

"I think a good meal is a balance between quality ingredients and good value and that really has to go hand and hand," she said. "Knowing how to use your products well and using the best ingredients takes some skill and knowledge. The real clincher is the consistency of the product."

She said the restaurant is also planning on expanding its breakfast menu.

"We are excited to be able to expand our breakfasts, which will include breakfast skillet options and breakfast burritos," she said. "We are also looking to expand our soup menu, especially during the wintertime."

Babette's Old Fashioned is located on 56 South Center St. in Millerton and will reopen on Jan. 19. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
