Barbara ‘Barb’ (Hill) Schenkel

SALISBURY — Barbara “Barb” (Hill) Schenkel, 78, of Undermountain Road died peacefully, with her family at her side, May 22, 2011, at Sharon Hospital. She was the wife of Rolf Schenkel. Barb was born Dec. 11, 1932, in Stamford, Conn., the daughter of the late Alice (Baker) and Harry Hill. She and her husband owned and operated the Ragamont Inn in Salisbury for more than 30 years. Barb was an avid golfer and bowler and so enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. She was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy from May 7, 1952, through May 4, 1956.In addition to her husband, Barb is survived by her daughter, Renee Schenkel of Salisbury; her stepdaughter, Helga Schwegler and her husband, Bruno, of Switzerland; her sisters, Arlene Ritchey and Nancy Consorte, both of Vista, N.Y., Dorothy Sirico of North Carolina and Alice Stefanisko of Salisbury; her brother, Roger Hill of Stamford; and her grandchildren, Fabian, Mauro and Kevin Schwegler, all of Switzerland.A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to either the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 582, Salisbury, CT 06068 or to The American Lung Association East Hartford, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT, 06108-3272. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
