French Club fundraiser

WEBUTUCK — The Webutuck French Club will travel to the French island of Guadeloupe in November. The group will include 26 students, staff and parent chaperones who will spend eight days immersed in the French island culture. The group will converse in French, experience the art, history, dance and culinary specialties and explore the island’s rainforest, volcano, underwater habitat and mangroves. The group needs to fundraise for the hands-on educational experience and is getting creative. The students will approach friends and family for donations that will enable a flock of very pink flamingos to travel from lawn to lawn on the way to Guadeloupe. The birds mysteriously migrate in the evening and no one knows exactly where they will land each time. Well-wishers for both the flamingos and the French students have the opportunity to host the birds for the day and also suggest the next stop on the birds’ itinerary. When passing the flamingos in the Webutuck community, honk, as it shows support and makes the birds feel welcome. If a person or local business owner has not been approached by a French student but would like to support the club’s travel, contact Joanne Boyd at kjsmbjboyd@optonline.net or call 845-373-7805 or contact Gazella LeJeune at leth@optonline.net or call 845-373-4391, and the French Club will arrange for the pink cuties to grace someone’s lawn. The French Club is continuing to sell its raffle tickets; the drawing will be Monday, Oct. 17, at the girls varsity soccer home game. There are two raffles: a sports sampler and a community sampler. For $1 a chance, or $5 for six, purchasers are eligible to win tickets to Marist women’s basketball games, Renegades tickets, a Marist hoodie or blanket or a Hudson River print. The Community Sampler is just that, an opportunity to win gift certificates to local businesses: Jack’s Auto; Mane Street Salon; Fox and the Hare Salon; Roundtuit; Millbrook Vineyards and Winery; TriArts and Lake Compounce, or a necklace from North Star Studios or a copy of the Gourmet Cookbook by Ruth Reichl.
