George M. Sherwood

LAKEVILLE — George M. Sherwood, 70, of Lakeville and formerly of Trumbull, Conn., died peacefully at Greenwich Hospital on Jan. 23, 2014. He was born June 29, 1943, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn. He was the son of the late Dorothy (Larney) and George A. Sherwood of Lakeville. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in LakevilleGeorge was a graduate of Notre Dame High School (class of 1961). He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a dedicated employee of the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years and went on to serve as president of the Connecticut Union of Telephone Workers. He retired in 1990.George was a beloved husband, wonderful son, the big brother, best dad, favorite uncle, fun cousin, good godson, no. 1 grandpa, avid baseball fan and movie buff. Heaven has a special place for George; we were not ready to let him go but we know he will enjoy eternal life with the Lord until we meet again.George is survived by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, SunHe Sherwood-Dudley and her husband, Paul, of Southampton, N.Y., and Tina Romanello and her husband, Dan, of Greenwich, Conn.; three brothers, Robert and his wife, Cathy, of Salisbury, and Peter and John and his wife, Becky, of Lakeville; two sisters, Mary Smith and her husband, Jim, of Lakeville, and Katie Wood and her husband, Jim, of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Julia, Alexandra, Samantha and James Dudley and Pace Romanello; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, Feb. 1, at noon. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the spring. In lieu of flowers, George has requested donations be made to St. Mary’s Church, 76 Sharon Road, Lakeville, CT 06039 or his alma mater, Notre Dame High School (Class of ’61), 220 Jefferson St., Fairfield, CT 06825.

On Saturday, June 21, Mort Klaus, longtime Sharon resident, hosted 250 enthusiastic supporters of Northwest Corner’s beloved nonprofit, Chore Service at his stunning 175-acre property. Chore Service provides essential non-medical support to help older adults and those with disabilities maintain their independence and quality of life in their own homes.

Jane MacLaren, Executive Director, and Dolores Perotti, Board President, personally welcomed arriving attendees. The well-stocked bar and enticing hors d’oeuvres table were popular destinations as the crowd waited for the afternoon’s presentations.

The mission statement of the Berkshire Bach Society (BBS) reads: “Our mission is to preserve the cultural legacy of Baroque music for current and future audiences — local, national, and international — by presenting the music of J.S. Bach, his Baroque predecessors, contemporaries, and followers performed by world-class musicians.”

Its mission will once again be fulfilled by presenting a concert featuring Dane Johansen on June 28 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 29 Main Street, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
