John T. Arnold

LAKEVILLE — John T. Arnold, 81, died suddenly after a fall on Nov. 5, 2018. 

He was born on Nov.18, 1936, in Lancaster, Pa., the son of Helen (Trescher) and Harris Arnold. 

John was a graduate of The George School in Newtown, Pa., Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and New York University in New York, N.Y. 

John began his career at the Federal Reserve in New York and moved to JP Morgan in New York, where he spent the balance of his professional career. Summit, N.J., became his home for 30 years, where he happily raised his family, while commuting to New York City. John was a respected member of the community, serving as a trustee and treasurer at The Winston School in Short Hills, N.J.

During the past 25 years, John called Lakeville his home. 

He continued to support his community and was inspired by those around him. 

He enjoyed serving as a trustee and treasurer at the Salisbury Association, the Scoville Library, the Salisbury Congregational Church and as a trustee at the Northwest Center for Mental Health in Lakeville.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Harris Arnold; and his daughter, Tina Arnold. 

John is survived by his wife, Mary (Markert) Arnold; three of his children, Mark Arnold and his wife, Elaine, of Yardley, Pa., Heidi Prins and her husband, Tom, of New Canaan, Conn.,and Matthew Arnold and his wife, Tama, of Lexington, Mass.; his seven grandchildren, Suzanne and Jim Arnold, John, Philip and Trescher Prins and Naomi and Nina Arnold; his sister, Ellen Lloyd and her husband, Terry, of Haverford, Pa.; his brother, William Arnold and his wife, Margaret, of McKinney, Texas; his brother-in-law, Philip Markert and his wife, Susan, of Washington, Conn.; his sister-in-law, Judy Arnold; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who were dear to him.

John loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing tennis and paddle tennis. 

He loved the Red Sox, fireworks, summers in Canada, his dogs and riding his tractor on the land he cherished.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Salisbury Congregational Church. 

Memorial donations may be sent to either the Salisbury Land Trust, 24 Main St. Salisbury, CT 06068; or the Salisbury Congregational Church. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Chore Service provides essential non-medical support to help older adults and those with disabilities maintain their independence and quality of life in their own homes.

Jane MacLaren, Executive Director, and Dolores Perotti, Board President, personally welcomed arriving attendees. The well-stocked bar and enticing hors d’oeuvres table were popular destinations as the crowd waited for the afternoon’s presentations.
