Joseph F. Mazziotto Sr.


PINE MEADOW — Joseph F. Mazziotto Sr., 69, of Pine Meadow, a former resident of Windsor and East Granby, died Dec. 15, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Loretta (Kluntz) Mazziotto for 49 years.

Born Nov. 4, 1937, in Hartford, the son of Mary (Scirica) and Rocco Mazziotto, Mr. Mazziotto served in the Air Force Air National Guard out of Windsor Locks. He was employed by Roncari Industries in East Granby and retired in 1997. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Poquonock Fire Deptartment in the Poquonock section of Windsor. He was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Hartford.

He enjoyed fixing things himself, planting a vegetable garden and making outside furniture. He was an avid race car fan. He never passed up an opportunity to help another person and he was a wise man beyond his years. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Loretta, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Mazziotto Jr. and Rocco Mazziotto and his wife, Julie; a daughter, Lisa Mazziotto; three sisters, Mary Jean LaFrenier, Lucy Spakauskas and her husband, Al, and Antoinette Raskaukas and her husband, John; seven grandchildren, Christopher Mazziotto, Ashley Martin, Lindsay Mazziotto, Jenna Mazziotto, Brittany Mazziotto, Stephanie Mazziotto and Elizabeth Mazziotto; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Martin; and special friends Ralph and Rhonda Taylor, Peter and Mary Luciani and Dave and Linda Grant.

Funeral services were private and burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Village Cemetery in New Hartford. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted has care of the arrangements.

The family gave special thanks to the staff at Foothills Visiting Nurse and Home Care, especially Patty Keefe. In memory of Mr. Mazziotto, donations may be made to Foothills Visiting Nurses Hospice Care, 32 Union St., Winsted, CT 06098. Friends may visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.

On Saturday, July 25, Americana/Alt Folk duo Sweet Petunia will perform at Random Harvest in Craryville, a worker-owned market, café and community space that supports farmers and brings people together through locally sourced food. The concert comes just months after the fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 23 and County Route 7 that devastated the hamlet, disrupted local businesses and left a lasting emotional impact on the community.

After the crash, Random Harvest remained open and committed to connecting people through food and community. Simpson said the duo looks forward to contributing to a healing experience through their music.

“42nd Street,” based on the 1933 film of the same name, premiered on Broadway in 1980 and ran at the Sharon Playhouse for the first time 15 years ago. The show will be revived at the Playhouse when it opens July 25. Expect high-energy singing and dancing alongside classic tunes such as “We’re in the Money” and “Lullaby of Broadway.” The show runs through Aug. 9. Tickets are available at sharonplayhouse.org

STANFORDVILLE —Margaret Anita Layton passed away on April 30, 2026, after a recurring battle with cancer, surrounded by friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Anita and Jack Egan, brother John P. Egan, III, and nephew Michael Egan. She leaves behind a brother, numerous nieces and a nephew, as well as a community of chosen sisters who loved her very much.

Margaret was born in the Bronx, New York, and moved to Clinton Corners as a small child. Margaret spent her adult life in Stanfordville, where she owned Margaret A. Layton, E.A. Tax and Business Consulting. Margaret was a lover of all animals and an avid horse enthusiast with an active presence in the draft horse community. Midge lived out loud. Her vibrancy left a mark that will never be forgotten and will be sorely missed.
