Northeast (Webutuck) CSD Board of Education Nominating Petitions are available March 1.

Anyone interested in becoming a candidate for the Board of Education of the Northeast (Webutuck) Central School District may pick up a packet of information including nominating petitions from the District Clerk at the District Office located in the High School. The election is for two seats on the Northeast (Webutuck) Board of Education: The two seats are for three-year terms commencing July 1, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2025.

The Board member elec tion will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the same time as the Annual Budget Vote on the 2022-2023 school budget.

Nominating petitions are due in the District Office no later than Monday, April 18, 2022 at 5:00 pm with a t least twenty-five (25) signatures of qualified voters of the district.

Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain more the 25 signatures to ensure that petitions include at least 25 valid signatures.

Board of Education member qualifications are as follows:

Must be able to read and write.

Must be a qualified voter of the Webutuck Central School District.

Must be and have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Must not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year.

May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family.

May not be a current employee of the school district.

May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.

BD employees decontaminating after hazmat incident

State, local and federal officials responded to a "hazmat incident" at the Becton Dickinson and Company facility in the afternoon Thursday, May 15, Norfolk Public Information Officer Jon Barbagalo said.

The BD facility in North Canaan is on lockdown May 15 due to a "hazmat incident," according to emergency responders on scene.

Norfolk Public Information Officer Jon Barbagalo said BD "received a suspicious package this morning" and "numerous state and local authorities" responded, including the FBI, CT DEEP, state police, area fire departments and ambulances.

Keith Raven Johnson

SHARON — Keith Raven Johnson, a long-time resident of Sharon, died on April 26, 2025, a month after his 90th birthday, at Geer Rehabilitation and Long -Term Care facility in Canaan.

He was born on March 21, 1935, in Ithaca, New York, the son of John Raven Johnson and Hope Anderson Johnson.
