Leonce Joseph Leblond

WINSTED — Leonce Joseph Leblond died Feb. 28, 2011, at Laurel Hill Healthcare Facility in Winsted. He was the loving husband of the late Theresa (Rodrigue) Leblond.Born Jan. 13, 1922, in Plainfield, he was the son of the late Emma (Brodeur) and Edmond Leblond. Leonce was a veteran of World War II serving in South America. He retired from Boeing Aircraft in California, where he was employed for many years. Upon returning to Connecticut, Leonce was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winsted, where he served as an eucharistic minister. He loved being part of the church and serving its needs in any way he could. He leaves two sons, Ronald Leblond and Raymond Leblond and his wife, Laurie, all of California; many grandchildren;his sisters, Mrs. Madeline Casavant, Irene Leblond and Mrs. Rita Pasquarello, all of Winsted, Mary Jane Leblond of West Hartford and Mrs. Beatrice Rodrigue of Modesto, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Elianne Leblond; and his brother, Roger LeBlond. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Laurel Hill Healthcare Facility in Winsted for the excellent care and compassion shown to Leonce. A memorial Mass was held March 5 at St. Joseph’s Church, Winsted. Funeral services and burial will be held in Riverside, California. From research to recognition: Student project honors pioneering Black landowner

Cornwall Consolidated School seventh graders Skylar Brown, Izabella Coppola, Halley Villa, Willow Berry, Claire Barbosa, Willa Lesch, Vivianne DiRocco and Franco Aburto presented a group research project on the life of Naomi Freeman Wednesday, April 23. In attendance were U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., John Mills, president of Alex Breanne Corporation, Cornwall First Selectman Gordon Ridgway, Cornwall Selectman Jennifer Markow and CCS social studies teacher Will Vincent.

CORNWALL — “In Cornwall you have made the decision that everyone here matters and everyone’s story is important,” said U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Waterbury, to the seventh grade class at Cornwall Consolidated School April 23.

Hayes was in attendance to celebrate history on Wednesday as the CCS students presented their group research project on the life of Naomi Cain Freeman, the first Black female landowner in Cornwall.
