Marilyn L. (Markey) Minacci

NORTH CANAAN — Marilyn L. (Markey) Minacci, 80, passed away at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family on Oct. 15, 2018. 

Marilyn was born May 13, 1938, in Sharon, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Roger) and William Markey.

Marilyn owned her own hairdressing business, Marilyn’s Beauty Shop, in West Cornwall for 16 years and in North Canaan from 1975 to 2000, when she retired. Marilyn was a long-time and active member of the Canaan Northwest Lions Club for 25 years. During her time she served as president, vice district governor of District 23 and district governor of District 23. She traveled around the world in those capacities. 

She visited Japan as the district governor and China and Hawaii as a member. Marilyn was awarded the International Presidents Award for 1998-1999. She also received a citation from the office of Sen. Andrew Roraback for her work as district governor. 

Marilyn was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Parrish/St. Joseph Church in North Canaan.

 Marilyn is survived by her two children, William J. Minacci and his wife, Emily, of North Canaan and Linda Reid and her husband, Donald, of Lakeville; her six grandchildren, Christina Reid, Tami Reid, James Reid and his wife, Shannon, Brooke Minacci, Ashlee Minacci and Jonathan Minacci; and her six great-grandchildren, Cody and Kiera Reid, Jacoby and Meadow Reeve and Austen and Tanner Reid.

NORTH CANAAN — Sue Ann Miller Plain, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, passed away on May 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS. Sue Ann faced her illness with incredible strength, grace, and determination, never losing her spirit or her love for those around her.

Sue Ann was born on April 21, 1957, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She lived in North Canaan for 50 years where she built lasting friendships and began a life rooted in community and family.

Joan Anderson Turnure

SALISBURY — Joan Anderson Turnure, 91, died after a long illness on May 3, 2025, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury. She was the loving widow of Michael DeBurbure Turnure.

Joan was born July 29, 1933, in Mexico City, Mexico, the daughter of the late Lawrence Anderson and Barbara (Ryan) Anderson. She grew up in Mexico and Maryland, later attending the Shipley School in Pennsylvania and earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from Vassar College.
