Martha (Morrison) Kilmer

ASHLEY FALLS, Mass. — Martha (Morrison) Kilmer, 56, died Aug. 23, 2013, surrounded by her family, at Charlotte-Hungerford Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert C. Kilmer Jr. Martha was born Feb. 4, 1957, in Sharon, daughter of the late Evelyn (Murphy) and Bernard “Bernie” J. Morrison. Martha, along with her husband and family, ran the Twin Rivers Farm in Ashley Falls. The Kilmers have owned the dairy farm for more than 20 years. Martha’s second career was as a school bus driver for the Greg Massini School Bus Company of Sheffield, Mass. Her love of children and animals continued as the leader of two separate 4-H clubs. Martha was involved with 4-H for her entire life. She was the leader of the Silver Mountain 4-H Dairy Club in Dutchess County and the River Valley 4-H club in Litchfield County. She was the current president of the Housatonic Valley FFA Alumni Association and the current president of the Litchfield County Cooperative Extension Service Association.In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her four children, Sonia Gale and her husband, Frank, of North Canaan, Jessica Eichstedt and her husband, Jason, of Mill River, Mass., Robbie Kilmer and Cami Willis of Ashley Falls and Harrison Kilmer of Ashley Falls; her sister, Lana Morrison, and her brother, Lenny Morrison, both of Millerton; and her five grandchildren, Krista Flynn-Padelli, Kelsey Eichstedt, Kaliegh Eichstedt, Logan Padelli and Madelyn Gale; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Martha’s life was held Aug. 28 in the Ashley Falls Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan. Memorial donations may be sent in Martha’s memory to the Housatonic Valley FFA Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, 246 Warren Turnpike, Falls Village, CT 06031; and the Litchfield County 4-H Foundation, 843 University Drive, Torrington, CT 06790.

SALISBURY — Alfred Lyon Ivry, a long-time resident of Salisbury, and son of Belle (Malamud) and Morris Ivry, died in Bergen County, New Jersey, on Feb. 12 at the age of 91, surrounded by family members. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was a graduate ofAbraham Lincoln High School and Brooklyn College, where he earned a B.A. in English literature and Philosophy and served as drama critic for the school paper.

Alfred earned a PhD in Medieval Jewish Philosophy from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1963 and in 1971 was awarded a D. Phil in Medieval Islamic Philosophy from Oxford University, Linacre College.

LAKEVILLE — Alice Gustafson (née Luchs), 106, of Lakeville, Connecticut, passed away on March 2, 2026. Born in Chicago on Dec. 15, 1919, Alice was raised between New York City, Florida and Lime Rock, where she graduated from Salisbury High School in 1937.

Alice’s career spanned roles at Conover-Mast Publications in New York City, The Lakeville Journal, the Interlaken Inn, and as a secretary to the past president of Smith College. In 1948, she married Herbert “Captain Gus” Gustafson at Trinity Church in Lime Rock.

KENT — Carol L. Hoffman Matzke passed away peacefully with family by her side on Feb. 22, 2026.

She was a beloved mother and stepmother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, community member, and friend.Her presence will be deeply missed. She had a beautiful way of loving, accepting, and supporting all the many members of her vast family, and of welcoming others into her family circle. She was intelligent and well-informed about history and current events, and she took a genuine interest in knowing and understanding everyone she met, from friends and family right down to the stranger who stood next to her in line at the grocery store. Kind and generous, her family and friends knew that she would do anything in her power to help and support them.
