Christian 'Butch' Mitschow Jr.


GALLATIN — Christian "Butch" Mitschow Jr., 46, passed away on Dec. 13, 2007, at Westchester Medical Center.

He was born on July 13, 1961, in New Milford, the son of the late Charlotte (Kelsey) and Christian Mitschow Sr.

On July 15, 2006 in Gallatin, he married Nancy A. (King) Mitschow. She survives at home.

Mr. Mitschow was an inspector of concrete for Cranesville Block in Poughkeepsie. He was a life member of the NRA and a member of North American Hunter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sarah Lima and Cayden Frances Mitschow, both of Gallatin; two brothers, Charles Mitschow of Connecticut and Cameron Mitschow of Dover Plains; two sisters, Charlene Bernstein of Millerton and Christina Hicks of Pawling; and a son on the way, Christian Mitschow III.

Arrangements are under the care of the Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains.

Funeral services were Dec. 18 at the funeral home, the Rev. William Mayhew officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
