New look for plaza package store

MILLERTON — Open under new management, the Millerton Beer & Beverage Depot has undergone an upgrade in stock, and according to its management, a downgrade in pricing as well. The business was taken over by entrepreneur Harbalwant Singh, a businessman dealing with the Millerton area for the first time. The business, located in the Thompson Plaza on Route 44, was closed down for about a month before being reopened by Singh in mid-March.“My role is to come here and find out why the business was not performing,” Singh explained, which he said was an opportunity to revamp the store’s selection and pricing schedule.“We have a huge selection now,” Singh said, “not only of imported and domestic beers but many microbreweries as well.”Buying in bulk allows Singh to offer significantly lower prices, he said.“But the most important thing is we want to be a responsible business,” he added, saying that his business will be a recycling center for people to return empty cans for deposits.“We want to be more clean and more responsible to the environment,” he said.Millerton Beer & Beverage Depot sells a variety of beer and tobacco products, as well as a selection of non-alcoholic drinks and bulk quantities of ice.Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The store is located on the bottom floor of the Thompson Plaza, between Talk of the Towne Deli and the North East Athletic Club.
