Lighting store moves toward a brighter future

PINE PLAINS — Shandell’s, a custom lampshade and vintage lighting studio, will move from its current home in Millerton to a new space in Pine Plains.Shandell’s, which is owned and operated by Susan Schneider, has been located in Millerton for seven years.Schneider said that the main reason for the move is space. Her business has outgrown its current home and needs more room to continue to flourish. The new space in Pine Plains is double the size of the current Route 22 location. The new digs will also be closer to some of her bigger clients while remaining within a reasonable distance to the rest of her clientele.“I’m really excited,” said Schneider. “[Pine Plains] is a nice small town,” she said, noting that her new location will have everything she needs nearby.Schneider said that the feedback from her clients has been “extremely positive” and she couldn’t think of anything negative about the move.Besides the new location, Shandell’s will remain mostly the same. There will be fewer scheduled retail hours, but there will be more appointments. The online store and wholesale portions of the business will also continue unchanged.Shandell’s will hold a moving sale at its Millerton location until it closes on Saturday, July 16. All items will be 10 to 40 percent off.Schneider says she will miss Millerton, especially Mariley Najdek, who has worked with her throughout the store’s seven years in town.Shandell’s new location in Pine Plains will be at 2978 Church St.; the phone number will remain the same: 518-789-6603. More information about the store’s services and merchandise can be found online at www.shandells.com.
