George ‘GG’ Groves

SHARON — George “GG” Groves died peacefully, Nov.15, 2011, with his family at his side. He was 73 years old. Born in New York City, George spent his boyhood in Armonk and after some time away, he returned to Armonk where he had lived for the past 32 years.George lived a life full of love and friendships. He met and married his wife, Sandra, in Philadelphia more than 48 years ago. Shortly after they were married, he joined the Marine Reserves. George and Sandy relocated back to Armonk where they raised three daughters. George was involved in the real estate industry in Westchester for more than 45 years. He owned RE/MAX prime properties in Scarsdale for the last 21 years. During his career, George was president of the Westchester County Board of Realtors, Westchester County Tax Commissioner and RE/MAX Realtor of the Year. He was passionate about children’s charities, devoting many Christmas holiday seasons to raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network and other local children’s charities. In addition to his wife, Sandra, George is survived by his daughter, Christine, and his son-in-law, Sal Arnold, of Brewster, N.Y.; his daughter, Elizabeth, and his son-in-law, Samuel Moreland, of Tucson, Ariz.; his daughter, Wendy, and his son-in-law, Dave Stegman, of San Diego, Calif.; his grandchildren, Gina and Peter Arnold; and a granddaughter, Naomi Stegman; and his two sisters, Maryanne Carley of Sharon and Mable “Bunny” Southam of Miami, Fla.George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His kind heart, entertaining character and numerous tales will be missed by all.Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), in honor of George’s devotion to his children, grandchildren and disadvantaged kids in the community. The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of arrangements.

Scout repairs fallen tombstones

NORFOLK — The gravestones at the Old St. Mary’s Church cemetery in Norfolk will be brought back to the condition they deserve, thanks to the efforts of Boy Scout Daniel Moran. The 16-year-old junior at Housatonic Valley Regional High School has chosen this as his Eagle Scout project.

Moran said his objective is to lift up the stones that have fallen or are tipped over and set them upright, as they should be. “I wanted to do something along the lines that my brother did.”

Cornwall accepts proposal for design, construction of sewer facility

CORNWALL — Plans for a wastewater treatment plant in West Cornwall are one step closer to reality.

At its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 16, the Board of Selectman moved forward with engineering firm Natural System Utilities’ proposal to design and build the facility.

Falls Village selectmen thank outgoing commission members

FALLS VILLAGE — At the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Selectmen Monday, Sept. 8, the selectmen said farewell to outgoing officials.

BOS appointed Dick Heinz to the Housatonic River Commission effective immediately through the remainder of Ellery “Woods” Sinclair’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2025, and to elect Mark Gozonsky as the alternate to the commission, through Sept. 7, 2028 (also effective immediately).

Kent to vote on several ordinances

KENT — The Board of Selectmen and seven Kent residents gathered on Thursday, Sept. 18, to discuss several ordinances on the table for town vote scheduled on Oct. 2:

Section 17-11, “Restriction of Commercial Bus Travel,” prohibits the passage of tour buses on Bulls Bridge Road and Spooner Hill Road in order to restrict their access to South Kent Road coming from the south or west. The ordinance does not include in the ban buses relating to school activities, and it can be suspended when Route 7 or Route 341 are closed.
