Parades of lights and more in area towns

Harlem Valley — The holiday season is here, and citizens look to their town parades and festivities for community bonding and cheer.
Amenia 
The Amenia Enhancement Committee will hold a Decorating Day throughout town on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers should meet at Fountain Square.
The Amenia Dance Troupe will hold a performance at Town Hall, Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. Residents will then gather for a tree lighting at Fountain Square at 4:30 p.m., followed by the fire company’s annual parade at 5 p.m.
Line up for the parade is at the firehouse on Mechanic Street at 4 p.m. Any interested participants are encouraged to show up with a lighted float to join.
The celebration will continue at Town Hall for the Citizen of the Year announcement, refreshments, a raffle and visits with Santa Claus. For more information go to www.ameniany.gov.
Millbrook
Millbrook will hold its annual Parade of Lights on Franklin Avenue, Friday, Dec. 5, at 6:45 p.m. Line up is at 6 p.m. The parade will end at the Millbrook Bandshell where attendees may enjoy food, beverages, a live nativity scene, ice skating and carolers. In addition, the firehouse at 20 Front St. will host Santa Claus following the parade.

Millerton
The Millerton Fire Company’s annual Parade of Lights is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. Parade line up is at 5 p.m. at Arnoff Moving and Storage on Route 22. 
The parade will proceed through the village and end at the firehouse on Century Boulevard for an open house with food, refreshments and Santa Claus.

Pine Plains 
The Pine Plains Business Association is sponsoring Decorating Day throughout town on Saturday, Nov. 29, starting at 1 p.m. at the Bank of Millbrook Stissing Branch.
Following Decorating Day, the annual Parade of Lights will start at Stissing Mountain High School at 5 p.m. Participants should arrive at 4:30 p.m. for line up — all are welcome to join.
The parade will proceed through town to the firehouse.
Wassaic
The Amenia Enhancement Committee will hold a Decorating Day throughout Wassaic on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. Volunteers should meet across from the Lantern Inn.
The Wassaic Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary will host Santa Claus at the firehouse on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m., followed by a Parade of Lights at 6 p.m. Line up is at 5 p.m. at Luther Barn.

The school's girls and boys teams were named league champions after finishing the regular season with the best win/loss records. Winning the tournaments earned each team a plaque and added to the program's success in 2025.

Día de los Muertos marks a bittersweet farewell for Race Brook Lodge

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
