Perfect weather, in honor of Ed McGuire, at Cannonball

FALLS VILLAGE — The weather was surprisingly fine on Saturday, Nov. 7, the day of the annual Ed McGuire Memorial Culligan Cannonball Run in Falls Village. Sixty men, women and children came out to run and walk the 5K course.

The top time went to Jim Zoldy of Watertown, who crossed the finish line in 17 minutes and 33 seconds.

The first female finisher was Margaret Bankey of Beverly, Mass., in 22:06.

The youngest competitor was James Jimenez, 7, of Salisbury who ran the course and finished at 38:21, beside Max Jimenez, 11, of Falls Village. They finished in 46th and 47th place.

The three senior competitors in the race were all 57, and finished with a variety of times. Paul Atkinson of Norfolk finished third with a time of 20:32; Falls Village native son Bill Beebe finished 11th with a time of 22:37; and Martin Connor of Goshen was 25th with a time of 26:07.

Following the memorable benefit reading last season of Charles Busch’s Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” the Sharon Playhouse will present a one-night-only staged reading of his riotous comic melodrama “Die Mommie Die!” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

The production —a deliciously over-the-top homage to classic Hollywood mid-century thrillers — ­­continues the Playhouse’s artistic partnership with Busch, who reprises his iconic role of the glamorous yet troubled songstress Angela Arden.
