Shawna Rae Westfall

COPAKE — Shawna Rae Westfall died Sept. 3, 2019.

Shawna was born May 16, 1994, to Martin and Patricia (Hart) Westfall in Sharon. She lived in Copake, N.Y.

She was a Daisy and Brownie in the Girls Scouts of America. She was also in the Hoofers 4H group and showed her calf at the Chatham Fair and she would later train the calves for the fair.

She was baptized at the Ancramdale Presbyterian Church and had her First Communion at St. Bridget’s Church in Copake Falls.

She was a 2012 Graduate of Taconic Hills High School and played on the volleyball team and went through the CNA program there.

She was engaged to Joe Vossler of Copake and they were eagerly planning their wedding for October 2020.

It was her greatest joy in life to share many good times together with Joe and her family.

Shawna worked several years at the Church Street Deli in Copake and more recently at the Swiss Hutte in Hillsdale, N.Y. and at the Troutbeck Conference Center in Amenia.

She loved all animals, especially dogs, and most especially Wheatie, her parents’ wheaten terrier.

She dreamed of becoming a marine biologist and had a fascination with dolphins.

She was a nature lover and liked going to the woods on four- wheelers with her fiancé, Joe. And she liked working with her father outdoors in his property management business.

She loved country music and enjoyed going to concerts.

She was especially proud of completing the New Hope Manor Rehab Program in June. She was cited for being consistently punctual, perfect attendance  and excellent participation.

Shawna leaves an immense void that can only be filled by her loving memory in the hearts of her parents, Marty and Pat Westfall; her brothers, Scott and James;  her fiancé, Joe Vossler; and her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and co-workers.

There will be a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls, NY 12517, Deacon Al Manzella officiating, with a time of visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and a service beginning at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Interment will take place later, at the convenience of the family.

The family invites you to share in this celebration.

Siglio Press: Uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature

Uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature.

Richard Kraft

Siglio Press is a small, independent publishing house based in Egremont, Massachusetts, known for producing “uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature.” Founded and run by editor and publisher Lisa Pearson, Siglio has, since 2008, designed books that challenge conventions of both form and content.

A visit to Pearson’s airy studio suggests uncommon work, to be sure. Each of four very large tables were covered with what looked to be thousands of miniature squares of inkjet-printed, kaleidoscopically colored pieces of paper. Another table was covered with dozens of book/illustration-size, abstracted images of deer, made up of colored dots. For the enchanted and the mystified, Pearson kindly explained that these pieces were to be collaged together as artworks by the artist Richard Kraft (a frequent contributor to the Siglio Press and Pearson’s husband). The works would be accompanied by writings by two poets, Elizabeth Zuba and Monica Torre, in an as-yet-to-be-named book, inspired by a found copy of a worn French children’s book from the 1930s called “Robin de Bois” (Robin Hood).
