The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Car hits guardrail

Caleb Cutler, 62, of New Hartford was driving north on Niles Road in New Hartford Dec. 12. At about 5:50 p.m., his 2006 Chevrolet HHR veered off the left side of the road. It hit a guardrail. Cutler was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with head and chest pain. The accident is under investigation.

Probation violation

Russell Cone, 47, of New Hartford was arrested on a warrant Dec. 13. He was charged with violation of probation. Bond was set at $25,000. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court Dec. 14.

Items stolen from home

A New Hartford resident reported several household items were taken from his Town Hill Road home between 2009 and 2010. William Buckson, 58, filed the complaint Dec. 14. It is under investigation.

Rear-end collision

Laurence Murray, 61, of Hinsdale, Mass., was driving east on Route 44 in New Hartford Dec. 14. At about 2:22 p.m., his 2005 Ford Escape hit the rear of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Orville Look, 79, of Burlington, Conn. The Suburban is registered to Martel Transportation in Collinsville, Conn. There were no injuries to the drivers or Look’s passengers, Matthew Cote, 16, Kaylee Jacques, 15, Ethan Oneill, 16, Michael Henson, 16 and Joseph Viner, 18, all of Canton. Murray was given a written warning for following too closely.

DUI

Travis Wilcox, 21, of Sandisfield, Mass., was stopped by police on N. Main Street in Winchester Dec. 15. He was charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain the proper lane. Bond was set at $500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Jan. 7.

Failure to appear

Robert Kelly, of New Hartford was arrested on a warrant Dec. 15 after he was located in the Barkhamsted commuter parking lot. He was charged with failure to appear. Bond was set at $5,000. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court Dec. 17.

My husband Tom, our friend Jim Jasper and I spent the day at Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. A cold, blustery wind shook the limbs of an ancient apple tree still clinging to golden fruit. Spitting sleet drove us inside for warmth, and the lusty smells of manure from the goats, sheep, pigs and chickens in the Stone Round Barn filled our senses. We traveled back in time down sparse hallways lined with endless peg racks. The winter light was slightly crooked through the panes of old glass. The quiet life of the Shakers is preserved simply.

Fresh off the successful opening of Lakeville Books & Stationery in April 2025, Lakeville residents Darryl and Anne Peck have expanded their business by opening their second store in the former Bookloft space at 63 State St. (Route 7) in Great Barrington.

“We have been part of the community since 1990,” said Darryl Peck. “The addition of Great Barrington, a town I have been visiting since I was a kid, is special. And obviously we are thrilled to ensure that Great Barrington once again has a new bookstore.”
