Stephen ‘Ed’ Mylock

SHARON — Stephen “Ed” Mylock, 75, died suddenly at home on June 4, 2014.He was born in Sharon on March 26, 1939, the son of Bertha (McGhee) and Stephen Mylock.Mr. Mylock honorably served his country in the United States Army.He worked at K & E Scribe Corporation in Millerton for 33 years. His second career began as a plumber for Taylor Oil & Propane in Dover Plains, where he was still employed after 20-plus years. On June 15, 1962, in Sharon, he married Judith (Meuten) Mylock. She predeceased him on Feb. 21, 2010.He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Miller and her husband, David C. Miller, of Sharon; a son, Eddie Don Mylock of Sharon; a grandson, David P. Miller of Sharon; a brother-in-law, Donald Meuten of North Carolina; three sisters, Shirley Stang of Ancram, Cindy Thomas of Wassaic and Terri Proper of Copake; a brother, James Mylock of Dover Plains; and several nieces and nephews.He was also predeceased by a sister, Pauline Rothvoss.The funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Little Guild of Saint Francis, 285 Sharon-Goshen Turnpike, West Cornwall, CT 06796; or Sharon Ambulance Squad & Fire Company, Sharon, CT 06069.To sign the online register, go to www.peckandpeck.net.

Día de los Muertos marks a bittersweet farewell for Race Brook Lodge

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
