100 years ago — December 1906

FALLS VILLAGE — George E. Frink was in New York the last of the week selecting Christmas novelties.

LAKEVILLE — The new street lights were put into operation for the first time last Friday night and the result was very gratifying to lovers of the village. The lights are well placed where they are most needed and they shed a powerful white light. The village is now probably the best lighted place of its size in this section. The storm and darkness of several nights during the past week has proven the worth of the lights and our citizens have good reason to take pride in them.

SHARON — Burney McDonald and Robert Livingston attended the six-day bicycle race in New York on Wednesday night.

50 years ago — December 1956

SALISBURY — A/B Richard L. Lovett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Lovett, is taking his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

KENT — In view of the plea for homes for Hungarian Refugees, Dr. Samuel Kiviat has offered a year’s rent free to three families in the property known as the "Beehive" which he recently purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Kai Sorenson. This property is an apartment building located east of the railroad tracks, south of the Kent Lawn and Garden Service.

SALISBURY — Louis Trotta has sold the Salisbury Market and package store to William Ford of Shagroy Farm. Mr. Ford intends to change their name to Shagroy Farm Market and package store but at present plans no other changes.

25 years ago — December 1981

CANAAN — Chris Adam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Adam, as a member of the Roanoke College Concert choir, accompanied singer Barry Manilow during his recent concert at the Roanoke Civic Center. Ten thousand persons attended the concert.

CANAAN — Candida Perotti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Perotti of East Canaan, received the Good Citizen Award Wednesday from the Salisbury Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
