100 years ago — March 1907

SHARON — The Busy Bees Society has voted to bear the expense of fitting up and wiring the Congregational Parsonage for electric lights.

 

CHAPINVILLE — A strange man who asked many questions regarding the death of George Campbell was in town last week. He looked over the bridge where he was killed and took many pictures of both bridge and tell-tales.

 

LIME ROCK — George Barrett is lame because of a horse stepping upon his foot, and quite severely injuring it.

 

50 years ago — March 1957

SALISBURY — The giant elm tree near the "kettle" came to the end of its days last week, when, felled and cut up, it completed its years as a local landmark.

 

LAKEVILLE — Commencing April 6 the Rural Free Delivery Route from the Lakeville Post Office will be extended in the Wells Hill Road section from Dr. Gevalt’s house westward to St. Mary’s Church. The carrier will also make the circle of Woodland Drive. Any residents of this area who desire to avail themselves of the rural service should contact the Postmaster as soon as possible.

 

KENT — Construction on a new store will soon start. The building will be located between the Kent Milk Bar and The Golden Falcon Inn. When completed it will be the new quarters of the Crawford’s Market.

 

CANAAN — Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bushey, who have made their home on High Street the past several years, plan to move to East Canaan. Their property is one of many affected by the construction of the new Route 7 through town. Mr. and Mrs. John Staples, who also live on High Street, are also affected. They have purchased land from F. Raymond Greene at Greenacres and have purchased a trailer in which they will reside.

 

25 years ago — March 1982

FALLS VILLAGE — Marsha Brown of Main Street has been named an Outstanding Young Woman in America for 1982. She is a member of the Falls Village Ambulance Squad, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Company and the Falls Village Scholarship Association. The program is designed to honor exceptional young women between 21 and 36 years old who have distinguished themselves in their homes, their professions and their communities.

 

NORFOLK —The tattered remains of an old canvas-covered plane were discovered Sunday near Beckley Bog by an unidentified snowmobiler.

Wake Robin public hearing closes

Aradev LLC’s plans to redevelop Wake Robin Inn include four 2,000-square-foot cabins, an event space, a sit-down restaurant and fast-casual counter, a spa, library, lounge, gym and seasonal pool. If approved, guest room numbers would increase from 38 to 57.

LAKEVILLE — The public hearing for the redevelopment of Wake Robin Inn is over. Salisbury Planning and Zoning Commission now has two months to make a decision.

The hearing closed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, after its seventh session.

Judith Marie Drury

COPAKE — Judith Marie “Judy” Drury, 76, a four-year resident of Copake, New York, formerly of Millerton, New York, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, surrounded by her loving family and her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Judy worked as a therapy aide for Taconic DDSO in Wassaic, New York, prior to her retirement on Feb. 1, 2004. She then went on to work in the Housekeeping Department at Vassar Bros. Medical Center for several years.

Born Jan. 2, 1949, in Richford, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Leo J. and Marie A. (Bean) Martel. She attended Roeliff Jansen Central School in Columbia County, New York, in her early years. Judy was an avid sports fan and she was particularly fond of the New England Patriots football team and the New York Rangers hockey team. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling to Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania for many years. She was a longtime parishioner of Faith Bible Chapel of Shekomeko on Silver Mountain in Millerton as well.

Jeremy Dakin

AMESVILLE — Jeremy Dakin, 78, passed away Aug. 31, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a long battle with COPD and other ailments.

Jeremy was a dear friend to many, and a fixture of the Amesville community. There will be a service in his memory at Trinity Lime Rock Episcopal Church on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.
