On Thursday afternoon Jan. 24, a Pembroke Corgi named Don Q, had taken his owner George Baer for a walk and as they stopped in front of the Ragamont Inn, Salisbury, Don Q started to dig in a snow bank. Despite Mr. Baer’s efforts to call a halt to this seemingly senseless labor, the excavation deepened. At seven inches the wise Corgi paused and there lay a diamond and platinum watch, bare and gleaming in the snow.

The watch, lost last week, was advertised by its owner, Mrs. John Buckley, in the Journal. Apparently unharmed by its rest in nature’s deep freeze it is now clasped about its owner’s wrist and Don Q can rest upon his laurels, assured that he has added to the long list of noble deeds performed by dogs in a world of bustling human confusion.

KENT — James Percival, editor of The Forum, had a rough week last week. He was under the weather and the biting cold weather made it even more difficult to meet deadlines. Added to his troubles was a chimney fire which erupted at his Kent Hollow Road home on one of the coldest nights of the year.

There are some benefits to running a newspaper. Percival was able to take advantage of his position by using a large space in the newspaper to speak jokingly of his woes. An ad on the back page said the space was reserved for advertising that did not arrive, "Therefore we dedicate it to: Snow Storms, Transportation that Does Not Work, Illness of Staff Members, Chimney Fires and Malfunctioning Machinery."
