Welcome back to school!

CORNWALL — School is back in session Monday, Aug. 26. Yes, that’s the earliest it’s ever been, but a small poll of Cornwall Consolidated School (CCS) students said they are ready, almost. At least the first weekend is a long one, because of the Labor Day holiday. Among the changes they will find is a combined fourth- and fifth-grade class, since there are only four fourth graders this year (at least for now).Principal Michael Croft explained that the class will have one teacher for most subjects. The other teacher will cover a writing class for fourth grade to meet curriculum requirements, co-teach third-grade reading and conduct interventions for children needing support in reading, spelling, writing and math, as well as areas such as behavior and organizational skills. In the area of technology, some new iPads were purchased to expand the number of class sets. Teachers and students can sign them out. Planned security upgrades were completed over the summer. Additional security cameras and monitors were installed, as well as emergency buttons. Other security improvements are not being made public.
