Winifred W. Grindrod

SHARON — Winifred W. Grindrod, 87, of Amenia Union Road, died Sept. 19, 2010, at her home. She was the widow of William E. Grindrod Jr.

Mrs. Grindrod was born in Sharon on Feb. 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Julia (Bownes) and Albert Wilcox. She was a farm girl who lived in Sharon all her life and married the boy next door (well, at least once he moved there ... they were in their 30s).

She was a terrific baker and knit and crocheted enough to clothe and blanket all of her relatives. She loved kids and they adored her back; she was the official babysitter of her nieces and nephews and had a following of our (her children’s) little friends when we were growing up.

She loved to read.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Grindrod of Millerton; a son, Philip Grindrod of Sharon; and two brothers, Norman Wilcox and Roy Wilcox of Sharon.

She was predeceased by her older sister, Dorothy Deane, and a younger sister, Barbara Wilcox.

A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery in  Amenia Union, N.Y., on Thursday, Sept. 23, at noon time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Ambulance, PO Box 357, Sharon, CT 06069.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of arrangements.
