‘All Shook Up’ Opens

The Sharon Playhouse Youth Production of “All Shook Up” opens this week, the 1950s musical packed with  Elvis Presley songs and acted, sung and danced by a large cast of local and talented young people ages 13 to 19.

The cast is headed by Nick Lamberti from Pleasant Valley, NY,  who plays  Chad, a fellow with a guitar, swiveling hips, a motorcycle, a lot of Elvis moves and a mile-wide streak of rebellion. He falls in love, with the wrong girl of course. The right girl, Natalie, keen on repairing things like motorcycles and a boy like Chad, is played by Kelly Follette from Poughkeepsie.

The musical was chosen, says director Sarah Combs, because it has a large cast, a lot of big dance numbers and the music is not only dear to teenagers but to their parents and grandparents too. And the script, filled with mistaken identities and adolescent angst, is funny and pleasantly predictable.

“All Shook Up” by Joe  DiPietro, with the songs of Elvis Presley opens at the Sharon Playhouse July 13 and runs through July 22. For tickets and information, go to sharonplayhouse.org or call the box office at 860-364-7469, ext. 201.

“Barefoot in the Park” opens July 27.
