2007 Parade of Lights

MILLERTON — The numbing cold Saturday night, Dec. 15, did not deter the crowds from coming out to appreciate the 2007 Parade of Lights. Residents of all ages, but especially the youngsters, waited expectantly for the parade to begin sometime after 6 p.m.

While waiting, a few brave and talented onlookers stepped forward to lead the crowd in holiday song, offering their own renditions of "Jingle Bells," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle Bell Rock."

The well-decorated and bright floats, cars, trucks, tractors, RVs, fire department vehicles and even a motorcycle and limousine started up Main Street to cheers from the crowd. The Millerton Fire Department welcomed firefighters from towns all over the Tri-State area, including Lakeville, Sharon and Canaan, Conn., and Pine Plains and Rhinebeck, N.Y., with their brilliantly lit trucks, to join in the festivities. Many town organizations also created floats and rode in the parade.

Once the parade wound its way up Main Street, it turned into Century Boulevard to end at the fire department, where firefighters had potluck refreshments for all. Santa disembarked there to welcome children and adults alike, continuing the traditional holiday celebrations in town.
