Appreciation: Mary Ann (Matyas) Fleury

We were very fortunate to have been able to share the last few years with Mary. She brought so much love and compassion into our lives. Mary was a teacher of life to all that knew her, she lived with grace, courage and humor, despite her illness. We miss her so much.

We want to thank everyone who has helped support us through her tough times, and her passing on. So many of you loved her, too. Our appreciation is beyond words. Our love goes out to everyone who sent flowers, food, cards, and for all the donations that were sent to Mary’s charities.

Our gratitude goes to the entire group at Sharon Hospital. Mary was so proud to be a part of your staff. Also to the Sharon rescue squad, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, the Kennys, Reverend Cady, Father Fador, our neighbors, friends and especially our family, thank you all so much.

Words will never be able to describe how we appreciate all the support and love that has been given to us.

Our lives have to go forward, Mary would demand that. Her spirit remains here, she is a part of every breath we take. We are so grateful to have had her in our lives.

It takes a lot of courage to share your art for the first time and Marilyn Hock is taking that leap with her debut exhibition at Sharon Town Hall on Sept. 12. A realist painter with a deep love for wildlife, florals, and landscapes, Hock has spent the past few years immersed in watercolor, teaching herself, failing forward, and returning again and again to the page. This 18-piece collection is a testament to courage, practice and a genuine love for the craft.

“I always start with the eyes,” said Hock of her animal portraits. “That’s where the soul lives.” This attentiveness runs through her work, each piece rendered with care, clarity, and a respect for the subtle variations of color and light in the natural world.
