Arbor Day celebrated by children and adults alike

MILLBROOK — The village of Millbrook celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 28. It was a day to celebrate the planting of trees, a tradition started  back in 1854 by J. Sterling Morton in the Nebraska Territory.

Arbor Day has since become a national tradition, with different dates for Arbor Day coinciding with the best planting season in each section of the country.

Also this year, Millbrook is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a Tree City, U.S.A.

A ceremony was held in March, in Albany. It was attended by village Trustee and Coordinator of the Shade Tree Commission Mike Herzog.

Millbrook was presented with a banner proclaiming the anniversary, which was held up by several students from Elm Drive Elementary School on the 28th, during this year’s planting of a bur oak on the school grounds.
