Arrest in Dover Plains stabbing

DOVER PLAINS — A Dover man is in custody after he was arrested and charged with stabbing a fellow Dover Plains resident 10 times last week in the Four Brothers Restaurant parking lot. The assault occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20; at this time just one of the two assailants is behind bars. Twenty-one-year-old Timothy Martinez was arrested on Thursday, July 21, in the city of Poughkeepsie by troopers from the New York State Police. Martinez was charged with assault in the first degree, a class B felony. He was arraigned before Town Justice Wren Abrams in the Dover Town Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.According to New York State Police Investigator Erich Schaefer of the Dover Plains barracks, authorities do not believe there will be another arrest, although he acknowledged the case is still under investigation. He added the state police have “been in contact” with the second suspect since the incident, but added “no charges have been filed against him” as of yet, and he doesn’t expect that to change.“As it stands right now we’re in pretty good shape,” Schaefer said. “We have all the witnesses we need … though it’s still under investigation.”According to the state police report, the victim, whose name is not being released, became involved in an altercation with two other men, both Dover residents, before being stabbed. The two suspects then fled on foot, according to Schaefer. There was no robbery involved in the crime and police do not believe drugs were involved. The victim survived the multiple stabbings; he is listed in critical but stable condition.The investigation, meanwhile, is ongoing.
