Barbara Ann Arnold

NORTH CANAAN — Barbara Ann Arnold, 82, a 10-year resident of North Canaan and formerly of Norfolk, died peacefully at her home in North Canaan on Jan. 13, 2015.Mrs. Arnold was a certified nurse’s aide at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan for more than 20 years.Born April 4, 1932, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Hazel (Frick) and Michael Kinney. She attended local schools. On Jan. 22, 1956, in Millerton, she married William A. Arnold. Mr. Arnold died on April 28, 1981.Barbara was an avid NASCAR race fan and also enjoyed watching the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. She also loved country music and enjoyed attending concerts whenever she could.Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Donna Speed and her companion, Todd Boibeaux, of North Canaan, Leta Hosier of Plainville, Conn., and Lee Marie Arnold of Vermont; two grandchildren, Melissa Crowley and her husband, Ray, of Pine Plains and John Speed of North Canaan; and a dear friend, Edna Neubauer of Forestville, Conn.In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was also predeceased by her grandson, Paul J. PrindleFuneral services were held at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton on Jan. 18. Burial will be at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton in the spring. Recount confirms Bunce as new First Selectman

NORTH CANAAN — A recount held Monday, Nov. 10, at Town Hall confirmed Democrat Jesse Bunce’s narrow victory over incumbent First Selectman Brian Ohler (R) in one of the tightest races in town history.

“A difference of two votes,” said recount moderator Rosemary Keilty after completing the recanvass, which finalized the tally at 572 votes for Bunce and 570 for Ohler.

KENT – The cold temperatures and biting winds didn’t deter a crowd from gathering for the annual Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Standing in front of the memorials honoring local residents who served in the military, First Selectman Martin Lindenmayer, himself a veteran, said the day is “not only a time to remember history, but to recognize the people among us—neighbors, friends and family—who have served with courage, sacrifice and devotion. Whether they stood guard in distant lands or supported their comrades from home, their service has preserved the freedoms we enjoy each day.”

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s girls soccer team is headed to the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
