Benjamin D. Horton Sr.

MILLERTON — Benjamin D. Horton Sr., 74, of Millerton died peacefully at his home with his children by his side on Jan. 5, 2013. Mr. Horton was a foreman for Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) for more than 20 years, retiring in 1995.Born July 14, 1938, in Sheffield, he was the son of the late Ruth (Newton) and Percy A. Horton.On Jan. 8, 1956, in Pine Plains, he married Dorothy June Brizzie, who died Nov. 29, 2011. Mr. Horton was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved camping and spending time with his family. “Benny” will always be remembered by the members of his community for his kindness and generosity. Mr. Horton is survived by two sons, John Horton and his wife, Vicki, of Amenia and Benjamin D. Horton Jr. and his wife, Frances, of Dover Plains; two daughters, Linda Gagnon and her husband, William, of Saugerties, N.Y., and Lisa Buskirk and her husband, Mark Gottenberg, of Saugerties; a brother, Richard Horton, and his wife, Ellen Palmer, of Lakeville; 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Horton III, James Horton, Jessica Wormell, Michelle Monty, William Gagnon Jr., Colleen Hample, Jennifer Lemoine, Mary Louise Benjamin, Roger Laberto and Nicholas Horton; 11 great grandchildren, with number 12 on the way; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Francis Horton; a grandson, Austin Horton; his sister, Barbara Cash; and his brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Donald and Edward Horton. A funeral service was held Jan. 7 at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at Amenia Island Cemetery. BRISTOL — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team ended the season with a 34-0 shutout victory over St. Paul Catholic High School Wednesday, Nov. 26.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
