Big community showing for benefit dinner

MILLERTON — Well over 100 friends, family and residents attended a benefit spaghetti dinner held for Sid Ball Sr. last Friday, Oct. 16, at the American Legion Hall Post 178.

Ball is recovering from major heart surgery he underwent two months ago. His aortic artery, weakened by a genetic disorder known as Marfan syndrome, ruptured and surgery was needed to repair it.

Food at the benefit dinner was donated, so the price of the $10 tickets will be going directly to Ball. A 50/50 raffle was held, and several items, including a handmade Afghan, were donated to the cause.

“I’m kind of blown away, Ball remarked at the event. He said the attendance number was a welcomed affirmation of his role in the community. “I certainly appreciate it very much.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
