Brewery takes flight in Colebrook

COLEBROOK — When the Norbrook Farm Brewery on Stillman Hill Road opened in late September, the  beer was so popular that it sold out.

On Oct. 16 the taproom had to close temporarily as owner/ brothers John and Randy Auclair expanded the capacity of the brewery.

After several weeks of setting up the new equipment, Norbrook Farm Brewery reopened for business on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

“People really seemed to like our beer,” brewmaster Colin Coan said of the company’s early success.

It wasn’t just the beers that brought customers back again and again.

“The people in this area really needed a place where they could meet with each other,” Coan said. “Having this taproom has been a big part of our success so far, along with our beer.”

The brewery and its taproom are one of the few retail businesses located in mostly rural Colebrook.

The brewery is on a 219-year-old, 472-acre farm that the Auclair brothers bought two years ago.

Early this year, they set up a 15-barrel brewery in a barn next to the taproom building.

“After we closed, we installed four more tanks and more equipment,” Coan said. “Now we can keep up with the high demand.”

Norbrook currently offers a saison, an IPA, a stout and a total of seven brews on tap, all made at the farm.

“For the holiday season we are planning to brew a special milk stout and a hazy IPA,” Coan said. “We also plan on continuing to ramp up our production schedule so we will not run out of beer again.”

Randy Auclair expressed thanks to the Northwest Corner residents who have supported the brewery.

“We have wonderful customers and we are very proud to provide a place where neighbors can meet up with each other,” Auclair said. “I’ve seen it where people who haven’t seen each other for months, or sometimes even years, have met up here. We’re happy to provide a place where people can come together in Colebrook.”

The Norbrook Farm Brewery is open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.; it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
